My goal aside from healthy hair is to also curate the perfect regimen for my thick and curly mane. One that adds to and maintains the moisture balance in my otherwise dry hair, while also promoting hair growth and length retention. Everything so far is so good! I have managed to fall even more in love with my natural curl pattern, more than I ever thought I would and these products are part of the reason why!
I don’t believe in New Year Resolutions, but for 2018 I have decided to try to be a healthier me. This means a more self-aware, health-conscious, and committed version of myself. To begin my journey I have started paying attention what I put in and on my body. One day while strolling the aisles of Sprouts I saw a little display case which housed Gabriel Cosmetics with two other brands. I hadn’t intended to purchase any make-up that day but something in me said to just browse the options. Prior to my outing I had been scouring the internet researching different brands and trying to shade match myself to photos on company websites and under Instagram hashtags, and based on the available shade descriptions. Green beauty can get expensive with and without shipping, and I was very hesitant to invest not only my money but my time in shipping and waiting for products that may or may not work for me. Anyone who is/has transitioned to green beauty has probably noticed the limited availability of products to purchase in store and color selections, so imagine my surprise when I encountered Gabriel Cosmetics.
Now that I’ve completed my transition to natural hair, it has inspired me to look at other aspect of my life and beauty regimens. Apparently, I was not out here living my best life. Going forward I have decided to work towards a healthier state of living, living today for tomorrow’s satisfaction. This entails taking care of my skin, hair, body, and overall well-being. It would be easiest to stay in the mindset of how I don’t need much to take care of myself now, but the goals is to take such tender care now so that I’m not playing catch-up later. Too often beauty is reactive instead of proactive, so I’ve decided to be proactive in how I maintain my health and beauty.
Upon research I found that there aren’t many of my products that don’t contain something synthetic, chemical, or potentially harmful. So when I know better, I do better.
Why did you get a relaxer? My hair is the thickest I’ve ever seen it, but my mom says that it was like this when I was younger. When I asked her why she decided to relax my hair in the first place, she says it was because it was “too thick”. Fortunately, I have always had a positive experience with relaxers, so I have a benevolent view of them; by relaxing my hair it made it easier for both my mom and I to comb my hair. Ultimately, my mom did it to help preserve the quality of my hair until I was ready to take on the full responsibility for myself.
The story goes: Target had one of their red-tag specials, buy three and get a $5 Target card (basically BOGO) on the L’Oreal EverCurl Sulfate-Free Shampoo/Conditioner ($5.99). I hadn’t heard much on the L’Oreal systems and couldn’t find too many reviews on YouTube or other hair blogs, so had I no expectations for this results of this product.
